Thank You, Custodians!
Encinitas Union School District Celebrates Custodian Appreciation Day on Tuesday, October 2nd.
Today is a day to show appreciation to our wonderful and hardworking custodial staff. Our custodians are an integral part of our school community. They not only maintain the school sites, they play an essential role in the health, attitude and pride of our students and staff.
Often the custodial staff operate behind the scenes. The hard work they do day in and day out contributes to the important first impressions of the school site and maintain a welcoming and safe environment for us all.
As mentioned in the story below, we sometimes go through the day without considering the importance of the custodial staff. However, it only takes a minute to show our appreciation to them.
Be sure to take that minute to offer a smile and say Thank You!
During my second year of nursing school, our professor gave us a quiz. I breezed through the questions until I read the last one: “What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?” I had seen the cleaning woman several times, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Before the class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our grade. “Absolutely,” the professor said. “In your careers, you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello.” I have never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her name was Dorothy.
